Deep winter in Maine- the snow lies in the forest, blanketing each limb and twig.
Sounds muffled, no wind these few days after the storms; the beauty of nature astounds me.

The stove in the studio takes the bite out of the air, but I still wear my heavy sweater, a vest, woolen fingerless gloves, my boots- a lot of work going on at the old farm where my studio is- the barn is getting saved- jacked up, crushed stone laid under what will be the new barn floor.

This painting was done in the studio, looking out the big windows at the white world, remembering the full moon of a few weeks ago casting blue shadows on the snowy forest. But also I am looking out at the farm, remembering a life time and those now gone...

Old rotten barn wood is getting burned in the snowy field this day, while the men crank the jacks, level beams, step by step...and another painting begins to take form far back in my mind, before I am even done with this one...
