Mark Island

March at Schoodic Point- this is the second painting in a series- out of my comfort zone, stretching in new directions.

The house at Mark Island sits exposed, white surf rising up against the rocky shoreline- spruce, huddled by twos and threes, cling to the North end. Gray clouds hang low, the afternoon sun sends a few rays onto the bay to the West. Below me, on the mainland ,waves crash in, sent hurtling toward the shore by wind and tide.

All over Schoodic nature tells the tale of powerful January storms; drift wood sits high at the top of the shore, bolders and granite markers askew at roads edge, seaweed lays deep into the alders on the upland shoulder- styrofoam pieces of floats, lobster bouys, and soda bottles are flung far into the forest by the sea.
