August in Maine; bright midday sun, mountains beyond the marsh, breath held as drought continues, ferns turning brown before their time. This is the same spot I painted last year in winter as a larger work including the beaver dam that sits just off canvas to the right in this painting.

A small field in the upper left glowed yellow in the sun, white/green lily pads and deep shadows added to the dance of colors.

During painting a young girl approached, interested and asking questions. It was lovely to learn she was a budding artist.
