After the Solstice
Oil on Canvas
24" x 30"
As June approaches July, the heat of summer grows. Lupine stretch higher, dancing in fields now tall with Butter Cup and ripe grasses. Bees work the blossoms and the sun travels in brilliant arc across the sky. Painting the Lupines becomes an urgent drive- soon the flowers will be gone, seed pods drying, plants sending their life back down into the roots.
I myself become painted, along with the canvas- paper towels strewn into the grass, open tubes of paint, focus intense as the midday sun takes the place of a cooler morning.
There is nothing like Lupines in summer in Maine.
